AWS (Amazon Web Services)

http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/gettingstarted/latest/awsgsg-freetier/

Was ist AWS?

AWS (Amazon Web Services)

Why did I receive a bill from AWS?

Regarding any bill from AWS, it will depend on what server option you chose with them directly. I know they have an exception to the free Tier1 called Route 53. See some information from AWS directly here.

With regards to the Billing for the Route 53 Hosted Zones on the account, Route 53 Hosted Zones are not eligible for Free Tier, hence the small charges on your account. The Free Tier promotion allows you to test some AWS services free-of-charge, and is automatically available to new AWS customers for 12 months. When the Free Tier promotion expires, or if your application use exceeds what is covered by the Free Tier, AWS charge standard, pay-as-you-go service rates.

For more details, you can review the AWS Free Usage Tier FAQs, along with the Free Tier "Getting Started" guide.

To help you avoid accidentally exceeding Free Tier limits and incurring charges when you don't mean to, the AWS Billing Console tracks your Free Tier usage through the "Top Free Tier Services by Usage" table, and gives you an estimate of your total usage for the rest of the month. More information on the "Top Free Tier Services by Usage" table here.

Will my AWS server be secure?

AWS consider cloud security to be their highest priority. Your server is stored in a data center and network architecture which has been built to meet the requirements of the most security-sensitive organizations. Customers pay only for the services they use, meaning that you can have the security you need, without the upfront expenses.

PuTTY is a client program for the SSH network protocol, used to run a remote session on a computer. PuTTY implements the client end of that session: the end at which the session is displayed, rather than the end at which it runs.

In simple terms, you can run PuTTY on a Windows machine and tell it to connect to (for example) a Unix machine. PuTTY opens a window, and anything typed into it is sent straight to the Unix machine, and everything the Unix machine sends back is displayed in the window. So you can work on the Unix machine as if you were sitting at its console, while actually sitting somewhere else.
