The world's leading digital currency Bitcoin has investors in awe as its price climbed past 30,000 U.S. dollars on Saturday for the first time, according to statistics from Coinmarketcap, a leading digital currency price tracking website.
Founded in 2009, the world's biggest cryptocurrency only recently surpassed the 20,000 U.S.-dollar mark on Dec. 16 with its continued surge in price, creating much excitement for holders across the world.
Bitcoin's price rose more than 600 percent since March 2020 amid heightened interest from small and large investors who anticipate continued growing support as a form of payment online with PayPal among the most recent adopters of digital currencies for online transactions.
Meanwhile, a number of central banks have responded to the rise of interest in cryptocurrencies by announcing plans to launch bank-backed digital currencies.
As of Sunday, Bitcoin's price continued its momentous rise to more than 34,000 U.S. dollars.
